Dow Slips, Nasdaq Edge Higher

Stocks in the US were mixed in the afternoon trading, with the Dow Jones sliding over 200 points, the S&P 500 was down almost 0.2% while the Nasdaq was trading in positive territory as tech rebounded. Nvidia outperformed, surging over 3% to reach a new record high, and Amazon and Alphabet also saw gains of more than 1.3%. Juniper Networks soared 22% after reports that Hewlett Packard might buy the networking-equipment company for about $13 billion. On the other hand, Tesla lost over 2.5% and JetBlue sank 10% after BofA Securities downgraded the stock to Underperform from Neutral. Traders continue to adjust their bets for rate cuts while awaiting crucial economic data due later in the week including the CPI and the kick-off of the earnings season. Meanwhile, the NFIB survey showed sentiment among small business owners improved in December but remained pessimistic while the trade deficit came below forecasts as both exports and imports fell 1.9% in November.
