US Futures Steady After Mixed Session

US stock futures steadied on Wednesday after the major averages ended mixed during the last session. In regular trading on Tuesday, the Dow and S&P 500 fell 0.42% and 0.15%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.09%. Energy, materials and utility stocks led the decline, while technology, consumer staples and communication services stocks outperformed. Those moves came as investors braced for US inflation data this week that could offer clues on the path for Federal Reserve monetary policy. Major banks are also slated to report earnings this week, including JPMorgan, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. In corporate news, Coinbase and other cryptocurrency exchange firms tumbled as bitcoin prices dropped after an incorrect announcement on the US SEC’s X account, saying that it had approved bitcoin ETFs.
