Wall Street Gains Ahead of CPI Report

US stocks were trading higher on Wednesday afternoon, ahead of the US CPI release tomorrow and the commencement of the earnings season later in the week. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were up over 0.6%, the Dow Jones added more than 150 points. Consumer discretionary and tech were the top performing sectors, while energy and materials faced the most significant declines. Meta experienced a notable surge of 4.2%, approaching its highest close in two years. NVIDIA also demonstrated strong performance, adding 2%, while Microsoft rose by 1.9% to reach a fresh record high of $382.13. In contrast, Exxon Mobil (-1.1%) and Chevron (-0.7%) saw declines, reaching their lowest levels in four weeks.
